Riverkeeper Congratulates Basil Seggos on his appointment as NY DEC Commissioner
Riverkeeper wishes him the best in his new role.
Ossining, NY — Riverkeeper congratulates Basil Seggos on his appointment as the New York Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner. Seggos, a former Riverkeeper attorney, now serves in the Cuomo administration as Deputy Secretary for the Environment. His appointment is due to be confirmed by the NY State Senate in the coming weeks.
Seggos worked at Riverkeeper for seven years. He served as the environmental watchdog group’s Chief Investigator & Hudson River Program Director between 2001 and 2007. Seggos will replace Acting Commisioner Marc Gerstman, who will continue in his role as executive deputy commissioner.
“Basil has his work cut out for him but he knows what real environmental leadership looks like. We’re counting on him to be a great commissioner and looking forward to working with him,” said Riverkeeper President Paul Gallay. “His former colleagues here at Riverkeeper are excited by this announcement and wish Basil success. We look forward a continued and cordial relationship with him.”
