Roundtable Panel Presentation to Address Groundwater Contamination at Indian Point

Tarrytown, NY – April 19, 2010 – Riverkeeper has been invited to participate in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) roundtable meeting in Washington, DC. The meeting, being held on Tuesday, April 20, will address groundwater contamination at nuclear power plants.

Phillip Musegaas, Hudson River Program Director, will be representing Riverkeeper on the panel and will discuss the issue of spent fuel pool leaks and groundwater contamination at Indian Point.

Recent incidents at several nuclear power plants involving contamination of groundwater have caused NRC licensees and the NRC to take actions to address the source of the contamination. The meeting is being held in order to obtain the perspectives of external stakeholders regarding NRC’s regulatory framework (i.e., regulations, guidance, inspection, and enforcement) and planned activities involving groundwater contamination at nuclear power plants.

To arrange an interview with Mr. Musegaas, contact, Tina Posterli at 914-478-4501 x 239, or [email protected].
