We successfully fended off two attempts by Entergy to dismiss critical safety issues we have raised in the license renewal proceeding. We could not have succeeded in this effort without our experts and amazing attorneys at Riverkeeper.
As some of you may recall, Riverkeeper has raised various safety and environmental issues which show why Indian Point should not be allowed to continue to operate. Over two years ago, a panel of judges determined that these issues deserve a hearing. This past summer, Entergy requested that the judges throw out two of our safety concerns without a hearing! Riverkeeper filed detailed responses, coordinating with our nuclear engineer expert, as well as the New York State Attorney General’s Office, to show why these issues continue to raise critical safety concerns and therefore warrant a hearing.
On Thursday, November 4, the judges rejected Entergy’s ill-founded attempts to dismiss our claims. These two victories ensure that we will have our day in court on important safety issues.
Riverkeeper’s case gets into technical, complex engineering issues and without the help of our experts, we would not have been able to add another success to this on-going case. We thank all of the supporters that have helped us achieve this victory and we especially thank our supporters that have donated towards our Indian Point Expert Fund. We could not continue to do this without you!
