NY State leading the way in energy innovation, paving the way for a future without Indian Point
Today Governor Cuomo announced a $1 billion investment in clean energy and environment initiatives for New York State. Following is a statement by Paul Gallay, President and Hudson Riverkeeper:
“In his State of the State Address, Governor Cuomo outlined his vision for a bold new energy blueprint for New York. His recent Energy Highway Taskforce Summit and today’s announcement show his commitment to turning that vision into reality.
Riverkeeper is in full support of these initiatives, which include substantial funding to reduce energy consumption in state buildings and customer-sited solar incentives.
Governor Cuomo has given us real numbers to work with and a viable way to move forward. The initiatives also align with the Synapse Report Riverkeeper and NRDC issued this past October. By giving priority and significant funding to these initiatives, New York is heading in the right direction to improve our energy sustainability.
Riverkeeper will do whatever it can to support these crucial initiatives, which take us a huge step forward into a future without Indian Point, a future where we can keep the lights on and sleep soundly, with a wealth of safer power sources that are well within our grasp. Governor Cuomo is showing us that we can and must do better and move into the sustainable energy future that is right in front of us.”
