Martin Hampel, PhD


Martin Hampel, PhD is a private investor, dedicated nature and wildlife photographer as well as fervent advocate for climate safety and local sustainability. He has held several positions in the financial sector as a quantitative analyst, retiring at the end of 2014 after more than a decade at Standard & Poor’s in New York, where he was a Senior Director and Global Head of Operations for the Quantitative Analytics Research group at S&P’s Ratings Services. Martin earned his doctorate in Elementary Particle Physics at the Technical University of Aachen, in Germany, and the German collider research center, DESY, in Hamburg, where he also held a post-doctoral position. He consults for a private family foundation, which generously supports Riverkeeper’s campaign to close Indian Point and help the region transition to safe, sustainable energy. Martin lives in Peekskill, New York, with his wife and their dog under a solar-powered roof. He holds dual German and U.S. citizenships.
