Katie Leung

Katie joined Riverkeeper as the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator in September 2021. Prior to joining Riverkeeper, she was a field technician with NYC Parks’ Wildlife Unit in which she led a raptor nest monitoring project to study urban raptor nesting behavior and help NYC agencies make informed decisions on rodent management. She also led a community science program to document the nest locations, nesting milestones, and breeding behaviors of raptors. She graduated from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 2014 with a B.S. degree in Conservation Biology and centered her interests around wildlife conservation. She also earned an M.A. in Biology in the Advanced Inquiry Program at Miami University in 2022. She took her classes through WCS-Bronx Zoo as her academic institution in New York and focused her graduate master plan on plastic pollution in NYC. She is constantly learning that all environmental and conservation issues are interconnected and aims to involve as many people as possible to become environmental stewards and address these issues.
