In this edition of The Current, Riverkeeper’s speaker series, we take a closer look at how New York City’s drinking water system actually works, why it’s so unique, and what it takes to protect it. We’ll explore the reservoirs, tunnels, and natural landscapes that make it possible, and why this system remains one of the city’s greatest public assets.
Joining Riverkeeper experts for this special event is pizza expert Scott Wiener, founder of Scott’s Pizza Tours, to dive into water’s role in some of the city’s most iconic foods and the secrets behind the perfect New York slice – how what comes out of the tap affects the crisp, the chew, and the crust that millions swear you can’t replicate anywhere else.
Scott Wiener launched Scott’s Pizza Tours in 2008 as a way of channeling his desire to teach the deeper story of pizza.Scott also writes an award-winning column for Pizza Today Magazine, contributes to PMQ’s Pizza Magazine and PizzaMarketplace.com and judges pizza culinary competitions across the planet. Scott’s pizza pontifications have been featured on The Tonight Show, CBS Sunday Morning, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel, Food Network, Discovery Channel, The Atlantic, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Vice, New York Magazine and millions of other tasty media outlets. Scott’s tours have been featured as a top tour on TripAdvisor, Yelp, Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and several others. He is also the author of Viva La Pizza! The Art of the Pizza Box, a book about his Guinness World Record collection of pizza boxes.
