In a Riverkeeper exclusive interview by Karen Rybold-Chin, Lisa Graves, Executive Director of The Center for Media and Democracy, talks about the task forces of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the work going on to secretly advance its agenda, targeting legal rules that reach into almost every area of American life. ALEC is comprised of corporations and politicians who vote behind closed doors to limit federal oversight on issues such as fracking to put more responsibility in the hands of states, who in turn, are bombarded with political donations to advance the group’s agenda. Ms. Graves speaks about how they are working to develop “model fracking bills” to benefit the oil and gas industry.
