Please help support Riverkeeper’s 2020-2021 New York State budget requests! Riverkeeper’s testimony can be found here.

Ask your state senators to support:

  • The $3 billion Restore Mother Nature Environmental Bond Act for clean water, wildlife habitat, stream and wetland restoration, dam removal for fish passage, and climate and flood preparedness. The proposal from Governor Cuomo is bold but rather general, please ask your Senators to push for more specifics on how the funds will be spent.
  • $1 billion dollars for the Clean Water Infrastructure Act to support much-needed investments in our wastewater and drinking water infrastructure.
  • Reforming NYS freshwater wetlands protections to protect over 1 million acres of large wetlands currently unprotected by unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape as outlined in “part JJ of the Transportation, Economic Development, and Environmental Conservation Article vii executive budget legislation.”
  • Remove language from the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) proposal that would enable the Governor’s agencies to raid the fund to cover staff costs. This proposal has no cap on the raid and EPF funds are meant to fund on the ground projects in communities across the state.
  • The proposed ban on Styrofoam (expanded polystyrene foam) takeout containers and packing peanuts effective January 1st, 2022.
  • Contact Riverkeeper’s Legislative Advocacy Manager, Jeremy Cherson, jcherson(at)riverkeeper.org with any questions or for help with your 2-minute testimony.
