The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released its second review of the cleanup of PCB-contaminated sediment from the upper Hudson River. Two public meetings are scheduled during this period. It’s critical to be informed.

In its review, the “Proposed Second Five-Year Review Report” for the Hudson River PCBs Superfund site (available at www.epa.gov/hudson), EPA maintains that dredging efforts that started in 2009 and ended in 2015 are working as designed in 40 miles of the Hudson above the Troy dam, although “not yet protective” of human health and the environment.

Analysis by other federal and state agencies shows the Hudson River remedy is failing to meet EPA’s own targets for making Hudson River fish edible without endangering human health. EPA should have mandated additional remediation. As it stands, New Yorkers will have to wait decades or even centuries before they can eat fish from the Hudson River again without restriction.

A rally will be held prior to the meeting at 5:30 pm in the grassy area outside the Saratoga Hilton.
