New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced Tuesday that it will be holding a public hearing next Tuesday, February 24, at 7:00pm at the Washington County Public Health Annex Building #2, 411 Main Street, Hudson Falls.
The public is invited to comment on a remedy proposed by DEC related to GE’s Fort Edward Plant Site in Fort Edward. According to the DEC fact sheet, this proposed remedy focuses on the last portion of the Site slated for remediation under New York State’s Superfund Program: the PCB-containing bedrock beneath a former wastewater outfall on the Site.
Since the 1980s, DEC has required GE to clean up the Fort Edward Plant Site including groundwater and soil remediation, vapor mitigation, and cleanup of the shore of the Hudson River at the Site.
This proposed remedy work plan calls for monitoring well installation and sampling, as well as seep sampling and surface water sampling in the Hudson River.
In addition to the public hearing on February 24, 2015, DEC will also be accepting written comments through March 19, 2015. Written comments should be directed to Kevin Farrar, DEC, Division of Environmental Remediation, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-7013; 518-402-9778; [email protected].
