Riverkeeper will be at the 5th Annual Toughman Triathlon at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson September 8 and 9. Last year Toughman athletes raised more than $270,000 for 50 charities, including Riverkeeper, through the Toughman Community Fund. More than 1,200 adults and 700 kids are expected to participate and all race participants will spend some time in the Hudson River completing a swim course that varies from 20 yards to 1.2 miles depending on age group.

Croton Point Beach, an official public swimming beach, has been one of 74 sites in Riverkeeper’s water quality study since 2006. Riverkeeper named Croton Point Beach as one of the “7 Best Locations” in our 2011 report, “How’s the Water?” and the water quality has nearly always tested “acceptable,” based on Environmental Protection Agency safe-swimming guidelines.

Riverkeeper volunteers will be at Croton Point Beach on Saturday, Sept. 8, talking to the public and race participants about water quality in the Hudson River and the newly adopted Sewage Pollution Right to Know Act.
