We spotted an Osprey fishing for breakfast Saturday morning while southbound, on the way to pick up water samples from the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance. The Osprey plucked a fish out of the Hudson, circled the air and returned to the nest, where a small head popped up. An Independence Day family picnic. Here are photos taken at about 3 p.m. Thursday. The site is on the west bank of the Gowanus about 75 yards south of the Carroll Street Bridge. It appears that access is through the construction site or by water only. It looks like the contractor has been discharging sediment laden water for some time, given the amount of sediment coating the bulkhead.
