Photographs needed of crude oil trains in your community

Millions of gallons of crude oil are being moved through the Hudson Valley by barge, ship and train. Riverkeeper has launched a campaign to protect the river and our communities from crude oil spills that have had a destructive impact along the route of this “virtual pipeline.”

We need your help to document oil trains moving through your community by taking photos (or videos). We want to make sure decision-makers understand that these trains pass close to schools, homes and business districts, as well as the irreplaceable habitats of the Hudson River and its tributaries.

The trains are hard to miss—they are typically made up of about 100 black tanker cars, and they pass through the communities of Albany, Kingston, Newburgh and many other communities on the west shore of the Hudson River in Greene, Ulster, Orange and Rockland counties. Unfortunately, we aren’t aware of any publicly available schedules to predict when the trains pass. So we need many eyes open, and many cameras ready to take photos.
