100+ Locations from Brooklyn to the Adirondacks

Thank you to those who volunteered!

Sweep 2020

We welcome you to be part of the Riverkeeper Sweep, our annual day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries by joining a shoreline cleanup or tree planting project at a location near you. This year’s event extends from Brooklyn to the Capital District, with more than 50 projects occurring on the same day.

Over the last eight years, we have completed 737 projects along hundreds of miles of shoreline during our annual day of service for the Hudson, where volunteers have removed 259 tons of debris, and planted or maintained 4,071 trees or native grasses. We look forward to going this effort with you on Saturday, October 17.

Riverkeeper todos los años organiza una jornada dedicada a la limpieza del río Hudson y sus tributarios. El noveno Sweep annual ha sido reprogramado y esperamos que te unas con nosotros el 17 de octubre.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we’re making changes this year to ensure safety for all participants. Event capacity is smaller and social distancing is absolutely necessary. Please observe the following social distancing requirements:

  • Pre-registration is required to participate.
  • All participants must bring their own masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and reusable water bottles.
  • All volunteers must maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet and wear masks that fully cover nose and mouth at all times – no exceptions.
  • When announcements are being made, a distance of 15 feet should be maintained.
  • Volunteers should carpool only with members of their own household.
  • Volunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19 within the previous two weeks.

Join us at one of 50+ project site along the Hudson River or the tributaries for cleanups, invasive species removal, and planting projects. Find a project near you below and register to participate! Pre-registration is required to participate.

Riverkeeper Sweep Brewery Partnership

Riverkeeper Sweep is proud to partner with dozens of breweries around New York City and the Hudson Valley. In the past, our brewery partners have generously donated a free beverage for each 21+ volunteer at one of three dozen participating breweries and bars. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed unique challenges for our partners, and we would like to support them. This year, we suggest stopping by one of these breweries after your Sweep project and purchasing beers or ciders at full price to enjoy safely at home with family or roommates.
