Riverkeeper filed an enforcement petition with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (“NRC”) today, requesting that the federal regulator order Entergy, the owner of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, to reduce the power levels of both Unit 2 and Unit 3 reactors, to reduce the risk of a catastrophic meltdown in a reactor accident.

NRC Says Earthquake Risk at Indian Point is “Not a Serious Concern”

Just one day after promising Governor Cuomo that a review of earthquake risk at Indian Point will be given top priority; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced this wasn’t the case. “This won’t start until 2012," said NRC’s Elizabeth Hayden. Hayden further stated that the reason the NRC wasn't in a rush to get the data is "because this is really not a serious concern."
