Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This sampling site is located just upstream of the Bingham Mills Dam, which is the first dam on the main stem of Roe Jan upstream of the Hudson River confluence. These samples were collected by Roe Jan watershed residents and processed by the Bard Water Lab. As of 2017, this site is not actively monitored. Site photo credit: Kaare Christian.
