Entero Count

Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This site northeast (downstream) of Middletown is in an area with widely spaced houses, forest and agricultural land. The Long Path hiking trail crosses the river here. There are wastewater treatment plants one and two miles upstream of this sampling site.
