Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

Saw Mill Brook flows through residential areas and the SUNY New Paltz campus before turning north and flowing along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail to the Wallkill River. This sampling site is located near where Saw Mill Brook empties into the Wallkill River, at the DEC boat launch at Plains Road.
