Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This fishing and boating access point is located in the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, which borders a 10-mile stretch of the Wallkill River along the New York-New Jersey border. Immediately downstream of this point, the Wallkill River enters the Black Dirt agricultural region, where it is artificially straightened and its watershed is drained by manmade channels.
